Speaking of Humping

Speaking of humping... While at my Chiropractor’s for my horse-back-riding back, he asked how to get his (neutered) Retriever to stop humping furniture, blankets, and house guests.

I asked if the Dog was causing harm to himself or others. He said: No.

I said: it’s actually good for his back. Or so I was told, by my veterinarian, when I questioned questionable behavior of my (gelded) 1,400 pound oh so happy Clydesdale.

Bear in mind humping can also be the fabulous result of EMOTIONAL ECSTASY! = Like the "Zoomies" = over the top happiness = (another good read).

They just cannot help themselves... it's too much joy! But not always.

Dominance, insecurity, nervousness, jealousy, and confusion about social status are some of the culprits I have seen in my practice and all are fix-able. Dominant yet insecure personalities, too much energy, tension, past trauma, and ecstasy are all valid points to discuss. If the behavior is NOT the result of chemicals or hormones but of emotion – we can talk. Where do we put all that energy?

A better question is: how do we re-channel that energy and improve the patterns of learning already well established?

How to stay HAPPY & just tone down the excitable energy a little?
