The dish on flower essences

Frequently Asked Questions

Keeping the message simple (and free from politics), these FAQs refer to Remedies primarily prepared according to the 80 year old traditions of Dr. Edward Bach. Ineffective “remedies” and counterfeits do exist..

What do Flower Essences do?
Permanently transform and improve problematic behavior, attitudes, emotions, patterns of learning allowing any animal to excel to their fullest potential. Chronic negative behaviors may require 3-8 weeks of use. Dr. Bach wrote: To conquer a fault or a wrong requires steady development of the opposing virtue (good result), not suppression.

How are Flower Essences made?
Several flower tops, leaves, or stems are placed in distilled or purified water in a glass bowl, set in the sun for 20 minutes or up to 2 days, depending on the plant. The flower’s attributes are “assigned” to the water while the sun “potentizes” the Remedy, then strained, and preserved in brandy, vinegar, or vegetable glycerin.

How will Essences help my animal?
Mental and emotional issues are addressed and re-solved. Negative behaviors are prevented from manifesting. Remedies address all facets of a difficulty, including the past, present, and the future. Behaviors change or balance again, perhaps for the first time in the animal’s life. For example: develop “the virtues” of focus with Clematis, patience with Impatiens, and trust using Mimulus thus not needing to suppress the negative confusion, panic, fear or other emotional/mental obstacles and ensuring the best life possible for any animal.

Essences are successful because they address the root cause of animals’ behavior problems.

How to use them?
BlackWing Farms’ Remedies can be put in the drinking water, on food or treats. Sometimes, as in the case of feral or aggressive animals, just spray the remedy near them. Only 4 sprays 4 times daily for most animals. If you choose to put it in the drinking water; just add a few sprays whenever you freshen the water. Spray your hands and gently pet. Or on toys, bedding, grooming equipment, crates, stall doors, and in the bath water. Or a capful on a towel, gently apply or hang nearby - out of reach. Shared with others is fine. Guideline in homeopathy is: “Use less more often.”

In Emergencies?
Use every 10 minutes for 1st hour if desired and then as necessary for calm composure & improved behavior. If they are unable to eat or drink: Put several drops on your hands and gently massage the animal. Tips of the ears is wonderful. If the animals are too far away, aggressive or unapproachable – mist the environment. DURING Hurricane Rita in Louisiana –hundreds of post-Katrina animals were calmed by misting the air. It is NOT necessary that Essences be absorbed – just get the Remedy’s mist anywhere within 2-3 feet of the animals and let our Flower Essences do their work. Captured Mustangs, feral cats, trained fighting dogs and dogs used as “bait dogs” have all been successfully helped.

What about for larger animals?
Flower Essence dosage does not increase according to the size of the animal. Average is 4 drops (sprays)   4 times daily whether for a Jack Russell or a Thoroughbred or a feral cat. 2-4 sprays 6 times daily is OK too. Dosage is not about quantity but the frequency: Use less more often.

What about for very small animals?
You can use as little as 1-2 sprays twice daily and have wonderful changes occur. You be the judge. Successfully used on Birds, Fish, Pet Rats, Rabbits, Ducks, Chickens, & Iguanas.

What if other animals share the water or get some by mistake?
No problem. As a matter of fact; many people tell us the other animals improved their behavior as well. Especially in emergencies, go ahead and share!

The Good News
There is a solution for your problems no matter how chronic, ingrained, or seemingly hopeless they appear. Some special cases just take longer that’s all. And yes, of course, there are the heart breakers that cannot be helped, no matter what. But we can make their last moments or days so much better with Flowers. There are some whose behavior is compromised due to physical as well as mental limitations, or actual pain. For example, King Charles Cavaliers that are having “behavioral seizures.” Some of these episodes have made their way to utube videos on the internet as a source of entertainment where these dogs are growling and attacking themselves. Some spin, chasing their tails and hind legs, snapping and actually biting themselves. This severe damage can be caused by poor breeding practices from what many now call “puppy mills.” In many cases, Essences will help.

Because Essences are often the last house on the block for these animals: don’t give up. Expect nothing less than a miracle. Look for it. May not be what you thought but some improvement will be there. For the ones we do have to let go of – if and when that happens – then you can be assured you tried everything possible, accept that you did a good job, and go find the next one to help.
